The Coptic Liturgy

The following are some resources to help those newer to the Orthodox church, understand and feel comfortable during the liturgy.

Coptic Reader

Coptic Reader is a mobile application developed by the Coptic Orthodox Diocese and is supported on Android 2.2+ and iOS 6.0+ devices (iPhone and iPad). It contains the official Diocese translation of all the prayer books of the Coptic Orthodox Church in English, Coptic, and Arabic. Coptic Reader has been specifically designed to harness the power of modern mobile computing technologies to deliver a seamless user experience. Thousands of pages from dozens of books have been compressed and included in Coptic Reader allowing effortless access to all the prayers of the Church. Coptic Reader further includes the entire bible as well as the coptic prayer book (also called the Agpeya or Book of Hours). This makes it well suited for both personal and liturgical prayer.

Coptic Reader can be installed on any Android device with Android 2.2 or higher, and may be downloaded from the Google Play Store here.

Coptic Reader can be installed on any iOS device with iOS 6.0 and higher, and may be download from the iOS App Store here.

Meditation on 2 Chronicles 20
Then some came and told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea, from Syria; and they are in Hazazon Tamar” (which is En Gedi). (V2). What did Jehoshaphat do? And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.(V3) and he prayed ‘If disaster comes upon us—sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this temple and in Your presence (for Your name is in this temple), and cry out to You in our affliction, and You will hear and save.’ 10 And now, here are the people of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir—whom You would not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them and did not destroy them— 11 here they are, rewarding us by coming to throw us out of Your possession which You have given us to inherit. 12 O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” . (V9-12) God answer their prayers And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the Lord to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.(V15)

Let us set ourselves seeking the Lord, with fasting and prayers. Knocking on the doors of His mercy. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” (Psalm 50:15)
